My Job......Catching Moments

I can't begin to tell you how much I love photographing kids. Yes, there is the unpredictability that you just have to 'go' with because if a child doesn't want their photos taken it's up to you to get it done. All while making it fun. And then there's the meltdowns that may possibly happen during a session to set things back a bit. Add in a few wardrobe changes and you've got a full session. But if you're prepared for all of this then photographing little people is a blast. With these two little ones we sailed through our session so flawlessly and they both made me laugh through it all. Big sister H was a perfect model for me and melted me soon into the session when she very quickly became my buddy. Hand-holding and all. :)
I'd love to tell you that this first photo is of Miss H and her baby sister loving each other while playing in the leaves. But I'd be lying. Pictures don't always tell the entire story. We encouraged H to go in for a hug but little L didn't want to have anything to do with it. Looks like L is trying to hug back. Nope.....just trying to get away! And where was I.....positioned to capture the 'picture-perfect' moment.

MIA...

Once again I've gone MIA from my blog. Yep, I admit it......I stink at blogging these days. I hate to say it but blogging always ends up at the bottom of my to-do list and since I never really see the end of my to-do list this to-do just doesn't happen. But, in time this will change. Because things are changing around here. A new blog is on its way in the next few months. Yes, I did say in a few months. Remember.....it's at the bottom of the list!! But it's coming. I promise you.

Until then I wanted to post a few images from a recent newborn session. Baby M was the cutest little thing with the most unique curl right in the middle of her forehead. As soon as I saw her and her little curl it reminded me of a poem my mother used to say. One curl right in the middle of her forehead. For those of you that don't know the poem it goes like this...

There was a little girl
Who had a little curl
Right in the middle of her forehead
When she was good she was very, very good
And when she was bad she was horrid!

Ok....not the most pleasant poem but there's a twisted turn in most nursery rhymes so it couldn't have taken you totally off guard. But this little one wasn't horrid at all. The exact opposite. She was a perfect little model for me. Mom & Dad let me know early on in the session that Baby M is a yawner so I figured I'd be able to capture that sweet image. Nope....M had her own agenda and made sure I was busy, distracted, changing lenses....anything but ready for that great yawn shot. It became a standing joke! But I tricked her and got it. Plus I got that smile. 10 days old, eyes open and a big grin on her face. Makes me smile every time I see this shot.

Baby M & her beautiful Mama.

A Daddy's girl already!

Caught ya Sweet Baby M! You thought you fooled me, didn't you?!?!

Patience really is a virtue...

And it really is. This recent session shows that, through and through. We dealt with lots with this session but finally got exactly what we wanted.....a perfectly sleeping baby girl, all curled up comfortably. On our first attempt we got some great images of the big sisters and a few quiet shots of their newest addition. She just wasn't settling for the rest of my shots and I never want to push my littlest clients to do something they're just not interested in so we called it a day and rescheduled for the following day. I arrived with lots of sunshine in the room we were using only to quickly find that clouds were coming in quick and so was the rain. Called it a day right there and good thing. The lighting just wasn't going to work with me. Day three and we got exactly what we needed...and then some. Baby P was so sweet and perfect during our session and I wanted to keep her sound asleep on my beanbag. Here are only a few from that amazing session.
E was the most unbelievable model. She chose to pose herself like this. And I jumped on the opportunity to grab a shot of her. How could I not?!?!

The newest big sister. Such a tiny package of adorable.

Baby P sound asleep.

A Daddy/daughter moment captured. I can still hear the giggles!

Mom loves dragonflies so when she showed me this little beaded bug we had to incorporate it into a few shots. Too cute.

Thanks R Family for putting up with me for so many days. As always, I love your company! You have 3 perfect and beautiful little girls. Only time will tell if there will be a fourth! :) But only crazy people have 4!

Adorable Baby Boy

I know I've said this before but I'm a lucky girl. This line of work brings me to some amazing and beautiful people - both inside and out. This family was so sweet and so welcoming. The busyness of their home made me feel completely at ease since it reminded me so much of my own family life. They just have that way about them. Thank you so much for having me. Your newest and littlest is a lucky little boy to have so much love and attention around him. And he's pretty darn adorable too! I'm sure you'll all agree.

A loving look from one of Baby A's big sisters. I can already see that she'll be a doting sister. He'll be a well-taken care of little boy, that's for sure.

The big sisters. Oh, the things these girls are going to teach this little man. He'll make an amazing husband someday, with all this female influence.
And his big brother. I can see it now......N will be followed around like crazy by Baby A once he starts moving.
Loving his mama.

Thanks again for having me. It was my pleasure to spend the afternoon with all of you.

The Yawn

For a while now I have wanted to capture the yawn....that tiny little newborn yawning the cutest yawn you have ever seen. And for a while now I have not been able to capture that shot. It's to the point now that it becomes a joke when I'm at a newborn session because a baby will yawn a few times during a session and it never fails that the baby yawns when I've turned away or am adjusting my backdrop or I'm changing lenses. Babies just never seem to yawn for me unless I'm not ready, even though they yawn all the time. But I was finally able to capture that perfect yawn shot. I'm a simple girl......yes, this makes me happy!!!

And here's a few more from the session with my niece's sweet, sweet baby girl. She's such a little doll.

Heartbreaker

This handsome little man gets cuter and cuter every time I see him! And at the end of every session I always think he can't get any cuter. He does! I'm lucky enough to be hired to photograph him every three months. We just finished up with his 6 months photos and they were so fun. I can't wait to see how much fun he'll be at 9 months. Once we get to his first year I'll post a sequence of photos from newborn all the way to a year to see how we documented him along the way.

Check out those adorable eyes.....tell me he's not going to be a heartbreaker someday.

He soooo loves his Mommy. How could he not though......she's unbelievably amazing with him. She adores her little guy so much.

Can't wait to see you guys for our next session!!

Life

As some of you know I had the amazing opportunity to photograph my niece's birth last month. I had been thinking of getting into birth photography for a while now. I've been in touch with a great photographer from Tahoe that does this same type of photography and she has given me great advice and tips that have helped me along the way. It's not that easy of a task, let me tell you. And before some of you get all squirmy on me and wonder why anyone in their right mind would want birth photos, hear me out. We document everything in our lives.....times with our family, parties with our friends, our wedding day, our children growing up and heading out our doors. Why wouldn't we photograph THE most monumental time in our lives....the birth of our baby. No, I didn't do this with any of our children but in hindsight, I really wish I had. Images just for me to see, to be able to look back on and see the emotion of that day. To see the raw emotions that not many people get to see with an open mind. To be able to look back and see how you dealt with that situation, to see the bond between you and your husband and to see how your relationship evolved yet again that day. I was honored to be able to capture this for my sister-in-law. And to be able to watch a tiny life come into this world and be a quiet witness to this was a huge perk. Not everyone can say they have witnessed someone else go through the insanity of having a baby but if you ever do get the opportunity jump at it. You won't regret it for a minute. And you may never get the opportunity ever again.

Here are just a few images captured that busy night. And yep...of course it happened at night! I'll gladly lose a night's sleep to witness this.

One very incredibly, amazing midwife. Believe me, I know first-hand. She was also my midwife for my last baby.

Dealing with the pain so well.

Timing the contractions.

Love this image. This picture explains the entire story right there.

Just brand new.

What a beautiful little face. Absolutely perfect.

There was no way I was leaving until I had my turn to hold her.

There's those lungs! Such a healthy little girl.

First kiss from Daddy. Love Daddy & New Baby photos. She's got him wrapped already!

Thanks for inviting me guys. It was my honour. xo
